Re: Do you know anyone in food service?

I do. We eat one weekend breakfast at a local diner almost every weekend. Those folks are like family. They are take out only now, and we are continuing to patronize them. I will pass this along. Thanks.

We have been leaving really big tips, too. We can afford it, and every little bit helps.

Working from home

We have been highly encouraged to work from home; everyone in my department has been issued laptops and software that lets us get into the mainframe. Today is day one for me. I have resisted because wife is teaching from home and daughter is doing online grad school. Not sure how our bandwidth will ...

Re: A trillion dollars - a visual

I had to do the math . 4 inches is about right for a 1000 bills, strapped tightly. 1000 x 1000 = a million dollars 4 inches ( a million) x 1000 (billion) is 4000 inches = 333 feet 333 feet (a billion) x 1000 (trillion) is 333,333 feet divided by 5287 feet is 63.94 miles Amazing. I hate that as a cou...

Fair enough. I never could acquire a taste for Howard Cosell; I think it's going to be the same for this one.

I didn't necessarily say it was a pleasant taste.....

Re: Beth Mowins

I'm a neanderthal when it comes to female sports broadcasters. They annoy me because it's like my wife trying to talk to me while I'm watching a game. The female sideline reporters are pretty useless too. The only reason they are there is the gamble that coaches and players will open up more to a w...

Re: Huge Steam locomotive

I hope that some of you got to see UP 4014 (the Big Boy) on its swing through Texas. I played hooky at lunch on Friday to watch it roll into town. I have seen and ridden behind UP's other steam locomotives, but the Big Boy is unique, awesome, and big! It overnighted in College Station; my wife wante...

Re: Origin of Candy Corn

I had a co-worker who would mix candy corn and peanuts in a large bowl; and provide little dixie cups. It was possible to eat them together; the peanuts covered the sweet yuck of the candy corn. My brother has a Christmas tradition that everyone must eat a circus peanut before he hands out his gifts...

Re: Largest Steam Engine in world to visit Texas in November

I remember reading in one of Paul Theroux's travel books written in the 1990's that China was the only country in the world where steam locomotives were still being manufactured. I wonder if they are still making them. China quit making new steam locomotives in 1999. Several new locomotives were im...

Re: Amber Guyger Found Guilty of Murder

Surprised that she got ten years; I figured she would get more. I suspected that some of the jury would rather have convicted her of manslaughter, but agreed to a murder conviction because they didn't think that she should skate. I think that was reflected in the sentencing; I also suspect that tho...

Re: Amber Guyger Found Guilty of Murder

So, REALLY big settlement, then? What makes you think that if she waited for backup, and had a few minutes to stop and think, the result would've been the same? I believe she would have finally realized she was at the wrong apartment. I see what you mean now Jello. I'm torn on this. She wasn't &quo...

Over / Under on number of Zeke fumbles? 1.5 I haven't been to a Cowboy game since Texas stadium days; and only then to work concession stands. When I watch, would rather watch on TV. The last 20 years of Cowboy football has been pretty meh. I doubt Jerry will live long enough to see them in the Supe...

Re: Friday Night Lights

Our band lost me when the half-time performance was titled: "Impressions of a young immigrant to New York City in 1889." WTF? If the music is good and the drill is good, then the theme doesn't make much of a difference. Yes, but if you're asking country music fans to listen to prog rock, ...
