You might want to consider the dwarf mondo grass rather than full sized. That plant is $$$ and does not spread --at least it is so slow one could say it does not spread. I planted about a 5 ft. strip under our bird feeders about 7 years ago. It has yet to fill in the 5" I left between plants. ...
