Re: Class nickname

Regarding that teacher...if she really had never heard the term, she should have used our friend "google" to find out---even if students DID suggest the name. I'll bet she was "played" by some 6th graders who snickered all the way home.

Re: Olympic talk

I guess I could have just said "swimming"--but, please spare me the synchronized swimming!! My husband ran track in his youth so we watched all the track events. I do enjoy watching the Olympics--but as mentioned, it is nice to do it from my home, and having replay. As I get older, I don't...

Crockmommy
It was moon cricket.
I never heard of that in my life. So I went over to urban dictionary and looked it up.

So, then my son further educated me and directed me to the dictionary of slurs. (who knew?)

Did you know there is a racial slur database?

Olympic talk

Wondering---if the magic wand was waved, and you had free trip and tickets to see 3 Olympic events (summer Olympics), which 3 would you select to see?

Me:
Floor routine by gymnasts
400 meter track event
200 meter swimming

Re: Reading suggestion

Be aware that the books I mentioned have fathers in the 2 books who are cruel to their children. In the book OK for Now--the father qualifies for a child abuser, IMO. Another fun book to read: Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key by Gantos. If you have any connection to a child with ADHD, it is a must read....

Re: Class nickname

That term was never used by my family, and I don't know exactly who used it, but I know/knew it was a bad term. My oldest brother had a job that required he live in deep east Texas--maybe that is where I heard it. I really don't know. "coon's age" --my family never used that term either. I...

Class nickname

I find it hard to believe she had no idea this was a derogatory nickname.

Re: Vacinnations cause autism-More Information

Why? If vaccination works you have nothing to worry about. If your worried then you have no confidence in the vaccination to begin with. Apparently you have forgotten the measles outbreak in California a few years ago...plus the folks in Tarrant County who also has a big outbreak . Both caus...

Re: Vacinnations cause autism-More Information

Anout 60 years ago my first cousin listened to her MIL who said there was no need to vaccinate because "no one got those diseases anymore."
Result was a dead 3 year old from diptheria (IIRC)

Re: Vacinnations cause autism-More Information

IMO, if you don't vaccinate your children, then keep your children out of the mix of society. Keep them out of public schools and public places. Why? If vaccination works you have nothing to worry about. If your worried then you have no confidence in the vaccination to begin with. Apparently...

The church of my childhood

It was also featured in a film that Goldie Hawn did back in the late 80s.

Re: Vacinnations cause autism-More Information

It's not my credibility that's in question. The DA of BC is questioning medicine and hard science that has been investigated by experts in their fields for a couple dozen years. Oh, and the DA of BC is a lunatic. Here's an interview with the District Attorney of Bexar Co. TX and his wife. You can d...

Re: Rick Perry is popping up again...

My niece writes the following: That segment of the cast is "Dancing with the Dumb Asses." They better have Ryan dancing shirtless each week. That's his only attribute in this situation. (And they better have Rick fully, fully clothed.) In case you missed it, here's a "songify" v...

Re: Walk in tubs Someone I know wanted one for husband with health problems. Nurse advised them not to do it. Reminded them: He will have to sit there naked while it fills up (45 minutes) and then sit there naked and wet while it empties. On another forum I asked who had one and liked it. One woman ...
