Re: The Pope and politics

Assuming you're not a Doctor of theology..Think there's anything odd about the fact that you have taken the time to learn all kinds of things about Catholicism, that even Catholics don't know about or dwell on..and should I be trying to learn all about and post about whatever Denomination you belon...

Re: What is your LEAST favorite candy?

Rice Krispies and marshmallows stuck together- what ever that is called.
Reece's Peanut Butter Cups- if it's over 70 degrees it's a sticky mess.

Re: What's your favorite candy?

Anyone remember the little, cylindrical cardboard containers full of peanuts. They cost a nickle and some of them had coins in them- up to a quarter. I think a dime was the most I ever found. I remember they had a picture of an Indian chief on the lid. That was back in the 1950s, so I probably won'...

Re: The Pope and politics

They don't know Central doctrines that distinguish it from other denominations? Most Catholics have not studied theology..Catholic or otherwise. They go to Church on Sunday because that's how they were raised..like every other denomination. No, they don't. Apostolic Succession is a good example. It...

Re: What's your favorite candy?

Candy corn is still sold in stores.
I like gumdrops and orange slices. I never cared for jelly beans.
I still think red hots are my favorite.
My wife has a recipe where red hots are melted somehow and poured over peaches.
I developed diabetes and can't eat that kind of thing anymore. I miss it.

Re: What's your favorite candy?

Here are a couple that go way back. My favorites when I was a kid.

1. Candy Cigarettes
2. Wax harps, teeth etc. I liked to chew the wax. It was probably paraffin but had a good taste to it.

Re: The Pope and politics

To all the wanna be Catholic theologians/experts/ and bashers...you might consider that this religion has been around for what..2000 years? So while you're googling all the other Catholic bashers..please remember that there have been century after century of laws written, rewritten, ignored, interp...

Christianity, and the tenants of Christianity did not begin until Christ ascended into heaven.
Jesus dealt with the thief on the cross before that. While Jesus lived, we were under the Mosaic Covenant.

Re: The Pope and politics

"Catholics don't pray to them, they ask them to pray to the Father for us, just as we ask friends to pray for us." Not really understanding this..you're saying Catholics ask the deceased to pray for us, the living? No, I've never heard anything like that either. Yes, that's what I am sayi...

Re: The Pope and politics

Ok, I believe you. If you want to know what being a Catholic is like..go to a mass..and go to their yearly festivals. My son's a Catholic. He married a Catholic and converted. I've been to a couple of masses with them. I've never been to one of the festivals. My neighbor's been bugging me to go the...

Re: The Pope and politics

I've always admired the Catholic church. I've attended a few masses and I left feeling that I had observed God being worshiped. A Protestant service leaves me feeling like I've attended a lecture. Their doctrine of Apostolic Succession has always appealed to me. I have tried to discuss this with Ca...

Re: The Pope and politics

Yeah, the concept of needing an intercessor is not one I embrace or understand.............but then I've not read the books in the Catholic Bible that don't exist in non Catholic Bibles. I know back in the "old" days Catholics weren't encouraged to read the Bible. In fact they were told t...

Interesting you should address this today, Bill. It's been the subject I've listened to, in sermons and homilies, over last and this past weekend. As we know you can find almost any verse to reinforce your point. And there are lots and lots of opposing statements. Which is why context is so importa...

Re: I am curious.

Do you believe in miracles? It would be nice to believe, but I can't. You? It depends on what you mean. If someone is very ill or near death and recovers- is that a miracle? I'm not sure it is. It may simply be a case of a recovery from a major illness- which happens. Jesus spoke as though miracles...

And that's just Lincoln.
MLK Jr has his own rap sheet a mile long- serial adultery, plagiarism, gross hypocrisy and embezzlement come to mind.

Re: Ben Carson is a creationist

Evolution does not deal with how life began. It deals strictly with what happened to life after it began.
I believe that God created life. Evolution does not refute that and does not try to refute it.
