Wildlife guys--help solve mystry please

Postby LibraryLady2 » Fri Jul 06, 2018 1:13 pm

As you should recall, we put out the night camera on a regular basis.
We have several possums that come by--one whose pouch is obviously full of babies.

One night a possum came by and I thought curl I saw was a baby's tail protruding from the pouch.
However she came back more than once and the camera shows it was not a tail, but ??? round in her abdomen.
What the heck is going on with this possum? I have cut cropped the photo to show the strange sight in this image.

Can someone enlighten me on what I am seeing in these photos?

My friend suggests that the possum has some container spout stuck to its fur.

That may be a coiled tail of one of the youngsters in her pouch.

Those coiled tails look like that could be it.
