ARLINGTON — Ron Washington re-signed as Texas Rangers manager on Friday, citing the need to attend to a personal matter.

The club appointed bench coach Tim Bogar as interim manager. He immediately took over the position.

“Ron Washington informed us today that he has chosen to resign as Rangers manager in order to turn his full attention to addressing an off-the-field personal matter,” general manager Jon Daniels said. “Out of respect for Ron’s privacy, the Rangers will leave any comment on the details to him.

“While we are disappointed, we accept Ron’s decision and are grateful for his many contributions to the Rangers organization over the last eight years. This has certainly been a difficult season for our major league club in terms of on-field performance, but we were looking forward to moving ahead with Ron as our manager in 2015.

“Ron has guided the Rangers franchise to more victories than any manager in club history, including four straight 90-win seasons, three playoff appearances, and back-to-back American League championships. He has left his mark as a teacher, motivator, and leader on this organization. We wish Ron the best as he deals with this matter.”

Washington, 62, had one year remaining on his contract. The Rangers have the worst record in the majors at 53-87,

I liked him, although I didn't after "the incident."
He has proved himself worthy of managing.

I wish him well and hope whatever is going on turns out for the best.

:o You have been out of the loop!!

The Rangers decided to give him another chance after he apologized and groveled.
They gave him that chance and Washington got them to the playoffs. Then the Rangers chased Nolan out, traded all the players and are near the bottom of the league........and Wash retired.

Would love to know the reason behind this. You could tell from the tone of Jon Daniels voice he was pissed.

The team is not at the bottom of the league because of trades, it's because of a string of injuries that is unprecedented in the history of baseball.

That's my opinion, anyway.

bad trades, injuries, no free agent signings, bad free agent signings, firing bench coaches, bad hitting instructor, something has to be up for every pitcher to have arm problems. It's going to be a while before they are back on top in the division. A while before they get back to 2nd or 3rd.

IMHO, of course.
