The longer this goes on the worse it's going to get

Postby planosteve » Tue May 05, 2020 8:39 pm

I think the "pandemic" is not our biggest problem. It will go away. The far greater problem is the horrible economy. And it's getting worse by the day. Whether the govt. changes or not is not going to make any difference.
Over half of the people in the country live on the edge, 1 paycheck from disaster. And millions won't be getting another except for welfare.
We have basicly thrown the economy under the bus because of an overhyped version of the flu that really only affects sick old people.
The unintended consequences are going to be horrific. One, that is already begun is a huge surge in family violence. You can't lock families up together and force them to wear some stupid mask every time they walk out the door. We're going to see a huge increase of child abuse, spouse abuse, domestic violence, etc. In fact I witnesses one incidence today right outside my apartment.
If the virus disappeared tomorrow, it would make no difference unless we stopped all of the stupid idiotic things we are doing. I think this is just the beginning of a very real nightmare.
I don't think the end is near anymore. :D I think it's HERE! :o

We went to one of our local restaurants last night. They had all of their Cinco de Mayo taco and drink specials going on...

The dining room was completely empty. We sat on the back porch. Two other tables there were occupied while we were there.

This isn't sustainable. I can't believe how many people are currently walking around in fear.

ETA: I'm doing my best to continue to support our local businesses, but I can't keep them all in business all by myself.

If you were age 60+, had more than one underlying health issue, you would understand the fear.
Husband is over 70, has diabetes, heart stent, kidney function problems and high blood pressure. He is a walking target for this virus.

If you are under age 50 and healthy, I can understand that you are not concerned.

Some of the vulnerable should probably stay home. Locking everybody in their houses makes no sense whatsoever.

And for the record, I am over the age of 50, not 100% healthy, and I am not scared in the least. Everybody is going to die of something some day. Having no life is not living.

I am 64. I have diabetes. I have a heart stent. I have high blood pressure and kidney function issues. And I hate being lied to. And I hate being told where I can and can't go.

Ric, we have both been married to wonderful, strong willed ladies for decades. We are trained to go where we are told. As you to!d me about 15 years ago, the key to a successful marriage is to always say
"Yes dear". :D

There's a tremendous difference between being scared and having a health respect for potential issues.

I'm not scare of the water, but I'm not going to jump off a cruise ship.

There are occurences in everyday life that are more likely to get you than the Kung Flu.

If you obsess about them you will live in fear.

A drunk driver.

A gas main explosion.

A Texas spring storm.

They all can get you.

I will not dwell on catching the Kung Flu.

If fact I think Donna and I had it.

We were just too stupid to know it.

We were laid up for a couple of weeks.

If you believe an abundance of caution will protect you, thats fine.

But last time I checked a virus is a tiny little thing,

It can sneak in and get you no matter how careful you are.

A person can walk by sneeze on your house and you're done for.

So be as cautious as you want to.

Just don't tell me what to do.

Jump off a cruise ship is hardly a good comparison.

True enough, but all the things you mentioned we don't have much control over.
You can't be concerned about what you don't have control over.

If you do have some control and the ability to exercise caution you should probably take heed.

I can control the decision to jump off a cruise ship

If you think hiding in the house gives you control of a virus.

Then you must believe,

You must never drive again to avoid drunk drivers

You should move to an all electric neighborhood

And

You must have a storm shelter. that is completely underground.

I'm not hiding in the house. But I am wearing a mask when I'm in a public place and usually wear single-use gloves when shopping. It not only protects me, but potentially protects others if I happen to be an asymptomatic carrier. Its really no big deal, definitely nothing to freak out about.

As far as drunk drivers, all the years of playing clubs and driving home late at night has taught me to be pretty aware of the vehicles around me.
Nothing's foolproof, but I do my best.

By the way, I am in an all electric neighborhood. I guess I could get electrocuted by a drunk driver.

You know I believe you are doing what you think is best for you and your family.

I also applaud you for doing it.

So for your mental health

Don't look at the
