Minor kid bragging - he's going to be on NBC!
Purdue football is on the national stage Saturday night when they play Norte Dame at Lucas Oil Stadium, 6:30 Central on NBC.
Their previous two games have been on ESPNU and ESPNNEWS, which are really kind of like the minor leagues of cable television. No pre game show, no introduction of starting lineups; no back stories. But it is on the TV, so friends and relatives can watch. It has been amazing how many people have told me they have watched him play.
And he has been playing well. He had a decent grade for his first game (not the worst), and he and the left guard shared the high grade last week in the loss to CMU; the left side of the OL played well. He is getting better, improving and learning as he gets more game experience.
Kinda funny story (now) that happened during the CMU game. Somebody stepped on his foot, and his shoe popped off. He ran off the field to put it back on, because the laces are double knotted, and he wears gloves that hinder dexterity. The backup, who is supposed to be cognizant of such a situation, wasn't. Purdue almost took a timeout. Took 2 plays for the trainers to get him re-shoed. OL coach was livid; he got a major chewing. He was supposed to sit down on the field and put his shoe back on. That wasn't going to happen in 25 seconds. Announcers announced that son was injured; got lots of texts and calls after the game to check on him.
We'll be there; leaving after wife's vb game tonight; hope to make it as far as Texarkana; then on to Indy by 7:00 so we can visit with him for a couple of hours at the team hotel.
I have no illusions of a Purdue vicotry. I do want them to be competitive; and I do want #66 to play well.

I will either watch the game or tape it. Glad you can go.

What is his number?
Re: Minor kid bragging - he's going to be on NBC!
Since he wants to see #66 play............ I 'm assuming his son is 66 LOL
Zephyr thinks he's smart. He said onions are the only food that makes him cry. So I threw a coconut at his face.

He is pounding the neck out of the ND player.

bodine-
I want you to know that I am clicking away from UT-UCLA to check out your son.
BTW, he and I have something in common. I was in Lucas Oil Stadium about a month ago . . . but not on the field.

He played a heck of a game. It was an unusual experience. Rather than watching how the play was developing, I tried to follow him as much as possible.

Thanks!
Will try to post some observations from the game when I get caught up with real work.
Just found out he will keep the 1st string job (there was a JC transfer coming off suspension this week; there was much trepidation about this); he is still #1 on official depth chart; JC transfer is #2. Son has done nothing to lose the job; has been grading out very well so far.

Big Tex; I bet your seats were better than ours. 14 rows up in the corner; couldn't see anything but the endzone. Stated price on the ticket was $125; wonder what it would have cost to have actually seen the game.
Son was on a SportsCenter highlight of the Top Plays of the day. Purdue's 2nd td was a spectacular diving catch in the end zone. The clip was shot from the left side, and there he was, keeping the qb safe...

I was at about the goal line, but I had sight line problems with a plexiglass retaining wall and a handrail. I consider that an obstructed view. I wonder what a Colts fan pays for that seat.
Re: Minor kid bragging - he's going to be on NBC!
Just happened to see the last 10 minutes or so when I was eating at a sushi bar. Thought....oh yeah....there he is!

Random observation about ND fans.
There were lots of leprechauns in the stands; students dressing in green suits and top hats...
ok.....

We watched the game last night with friends who had taped it for us.
Wow. That was neat. Son looked big; and he played well. Thought Purdue played very well at times. Just made some stupid mistakes that cost them points.
Does anybody know if I can link pictures from facebook? There are a couple of good ones I could post from there....
