You really have to wonder why they would bother to try to rebuild it. For people to travel out to see where their house used to be?

People will still want to go to the beach to swim, get some sun, build sand castles, go fishing, etc even if they don't rebuild a single house. Nothing wrong with that. But knowing people, in a few years, without a storm, memories of Ian will fade. Homes will be built & it all happens again.

Only if the state of Florida is so stupid as to let them rebuild. Could be. Then if they can insure them. Not likely.

My guess is that most of the homes out there on the barrier island were owned by people that moved to Florida from some place
else. Most native Floridans would know better. But, they were making big bucks selling worthless land to the suckers. So, I don't think many people will build back even if they can afford it.
