I'm not sure that this isn't a specious argument.

The majority of major cities are run by Democrats. Out of the top 50 largest cities in the country, only 11 are run by Republicans, and it's #12 before you find one that is Republican run.

Big city - big crime. Stands to reason.

Do the other three have non-partisan elections? And what criteria is used to define "crime ridden"? The only reliable statistic is the homicide rate, which can't be readily fudged. In some communities stealing a newspaper off someone's lawn is counted in the theft figures, while in places like San Francisco people have been videoed pushing shopping carts full of stolen goods out of stores without any police involvement.
