My brother took his wife and 2 children and spouses with 4 grandchildren to Maui about 5 weeks ago!

It's hard to imagine Lahaina gone, Maui seemed like small town USA.

The fire in Hawaii reminds me of the fire in the suburbs of Denver a little over 2 years ago that destroyed over 2,000 homes. It came roaring down the western foothills driven by winds approaching 100 MPH. The final report issued a couple of months ago says it was actually 2 small fires that came together. One started in a shed owned by a religious cult. It was amazing that only 1 person died trapped in the basement of her home. The last I heard, only 1 replacement home had been completed.

It took awhile for it to soak in. But, I could have lost my entire family, 8 people! All at once. Very sobering!
