This Caitlin Clark business

Postby jellowrestling » Fri Mar 01, 2024 9:32 pm

Every single day, I see some story or other about Caitlin Clark. Every. Single. Day. As if more than 1% of the population gives a crap about women's basketball. As Regina George said in "Mean Girls": "Stop trying to make 'fetch' happen."

I've read that she will be treated horribly once she enters the professional lesbian's basketball league because (a) she is white, and (b) she is not a lesbian.

Meanwhile, one of the retired lesbians from that league is out there saying that it's impossible for a black person to be a racist.

Have you ever been to a women's college basketball game?

We've been to one. We went to see Rice play SMU at Moody Coliseum about 12-13 years ago, because one of my daughter's friends from middle school was on the Rice team.

Of course, that girl turned out to be a lesbian.

I went to a bunch of women's games when I was a student at SFA. The Ladyjacks were one of the top 5 teams in the nation in those days, and the games against Louisiana Tech were epic. They would often draw 3 or 4,000 fans for the big games. Good crowds. But the men's team outdrew them by a significant amount. When the men played Sam Houston, the 8,000 seat Coliseum would be packed to the rafters.

I enjoy watching basketball at any level, but most people want to see acrobatic moves and slam dunks. They made the women's ball smaller in 1984 to help with ballhandling, but women just don't have the speed, power and quickness to awe the average fan. And, since Caitlin Clark has decided to turn pro after this year, everyone will go back to not caring about women's basketball.

No. I've never been to a men's basketball game either. Except the Harlem Globetrotters when I was a kid. I don't care for basketball.

My mother and aunt went to KU. Their physical ed teacher was Naismith. It was a slower game then because somebody had to climb up the ladder to get the ball out of the peach basket after each score. :D

Well LOTS of people have never been to a women's basketball game.

I think it's interesting that Sheryl Swoopes criticized Caitlin Clark for breaking Lynette Woodard's women's record, because she incorrectly said that Clark did it in five years instead of four, because of the pandemic. This is Clark's fourth year. What is true, though is that she just broke Pistol Pete's NCAA record. However, Maravich wasn't allowed to play as a freshman under the rules existing at that time, and he did not play in the era of the 3-point shot. Hey, good for Caitlin Clark, but Maravich averaged 44.2 points per game for his career. If he had played with the 3-pointer, he would have averaged more than 55 per game.

Yes, everything she said in that interview was dead wrong and ridiculous.
