Trump is blowing it!

Postby planosteve » Mon Aug 12, 2024 5:25 pm

Former President Donald Trump is in a campaign tailspin and needs to pull out of it if he wants to win back the White House, according to a veteran GOP strategist.

The well-respected pollster Frank Luntz told The Guardian that while the Trump campaign is disciplined “their candidate is not.”

Luntz said that Trump is focusing too much on personal attacks against his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, including spoofing Harris’ racial identity.

“[Trump] is single-handedly destroying his chance for re-election,” Luntz said. “This is the weakest Democratic nominee in terms of record in a long time but his insistence on making the attacks personal and vicious are blunting their impact and, in fact, backfiring on him.”

Luntz last week said that Harris is now the favorite to win the election. Harris entered the race after President Joe Biden pulled out last month and tabbed her as his successor.

Luntz said that Trump can turn things around by focusing on two issues: the open border and the failing economy.

Harris has been slammed after being appointed by Biden to search out the root causes for illegal immigration into this country.

“Right now I think Trump’s gonna lose because he’s incapable of sticking to a message about inflation or immigration,” Luntz said.

Trump was pegged as the favorite in the race last month after the attempt on his life by an assassin and after the GOP convention in Milwaukee.

But Harris’ replacement of Biden has energized Democrats and others and has reconfigured the race, making the contest much closer.

Polls have shown Harris leading overall and doing better than Trump as well in key swing states.
