StarLink - very good so far !

Postby Red Oak » Sat Nov 02, 2024 7:27 pm

I set up StarLink this afternoon.

If you have an unobstructed view of the North Sky set up is easy.

It is a little pricey, but if you live in Cattle Gap Egypt like I do, it beats the heck out of Hughes Net.

In the middle of a thunderstorm I am getting 127/6 Mbps, whilst the Hughes Net is out !

I was at my brother's place yesterday, where there is no cell service from any provider. He recently installed Starlink there. I connected to his service, and it was as though I was in the city for the entire day.

I live in a rural area that luckily has fiber optic, which is all I need. Most rural residents are not on a road that has the cable laid down. It is delivered by a cable in a trench and people tell me that is the way it has to be, but in rural north Mississippi where I grew up it comes in on the light company's line and is available for all light company customers to subscribe.

I live on a state highway just inside the city limits of a small town. Frontier put fiber in the ground along our road about two years ago. I became a customer a year and a half ago. So far, the service has been outstanding.

The Frontier fiber allowed me to end my relationship with the local cable company, who consistently delivered horrible service, and my total savings are about a hundred bucks per month.
