President Donald Trump’s latest eyebrow-raising executive order triggered alarms throughout social media over the startling tone for American jurisprudence the action is ushering in.

Users across social media reacted Tuesday to President Donald Trump’s new executive order declaring that only the president or attorney general can speak for “what the law is” in the United States. The announcement of the new action came last in a series of orders Trump signed while at his Mar-a-Lago golf resort.

“Trump Administration is setting up a constitutional crisis because they want civil unrest to enact martial law,” national security analyst Maine Wonk wrote on X above a clip of the announcement.

“This should concern you more than any executive order so far,” former Republican and podcast host Jack Hopkins told his followers on Bluesky.

“Trump official announces that Trump has signed an executive order claiming that only the president can speak for ‘what the law is,’” FactPostNews wrote on X. “(This is not how the Constitution works.)”

Analyst and podcast host Brian Allen had a similar message for his followers. He called Trump’s order “A full-blown power grab wrapped in authoritarian cosplay.”

“This isn’t how the Constitution works,” he wrote on X. “The courts exist for a reason, but Trump is out here acting like a king with a Sharpie. If this stands, the rule of law doesn’t just bend—it breaks.”

“I'm sorry but this just makes me want to laugh hysterically,” former federal prosecutor Elizabeth de la Vega wrote on X.

Liberal commentator Brian Tyler Cohen wrote in his own X post: “They are trying to start a constitutional crisis.”

A YouTuber who goes by the handle @AmoneyResists told his X followers: “Can people please stop saying stuff like 'this might lead to a constitutional crisis'? WE’RE THERE. NOW.”
