Time for another episode of Pet Peeves

Postby jellowrestling » Sat Jan 03, 2015 2:28 pm

Dropping "t"s in the middle of words.

Watching Bryan LLenas on FOX reporting on the funeral of the second NYPD officer.

I heard him say "Mar'in" (instead of "Martin"), but I kind of let that slide because it's a soft "t", and it's not that uncommon for people to do. But it set my teeth on edge when he said "Commissioner Bra' in" (for Bratton".

An otherwise well-spoken young man, makes him sound like an idiot.

On the flip side we have pronouncing the t like it's something special as MarTin. Seems to be some Yankeeism that has gotten popular amongst the younger set. Irks the snot out of me.

It is definitely a Northeast thing.

Watch Maria Bartiromo on Fox Business..she is a classic example.

And where i grew up in Rhode Island..that is the normal way to pronounce words like that.

Dropping the "t" in the middle of words is characteristic of some lower class English accents.

It's younger people here, who are either from or are trying to sound like they are from the 'hood.

They drop them at the end of words, too.

Oh and then there are those who pronounce "mail" as "mell", "sale" as "sell", etc. It's "A" discrimination.

'Ideal' when they mean to say 'Idea'. And a jury of peers.

Anyways when they mean anyway. Yeah, these are petty and if they are the biggest gripes I have I am indeed blessed.

Herkey jerkey websites like the Dallas Morning News that continually download ads so that it runs slow all the time.

Neocons that claim they are "libertarian".

Ditto on the DMN website. I've always had trouble with it because of all the content it has to load, but they recently upgraded their website (again) and now I have trouble getting any response at all for about 5 minutes. Maybe I should try it on Chrome and see if there is any difference.

It's not as bad with the desktop. But, it's like molasses with the laptop on wifi. I could have more speed for more money, but why do that for just a few sites?
