Three English bulldog puppies stolen in Johnson County

By Domingo Ramirez Jr.

Johnson County authorities continued searching Monday for burglars who broke into a home near Burleson over the weekend and took three English bulldog puppies valued at $10,000 each.

Two of the puppies, 10-month-old siblings Mac and Sky, were to compete at a show this week in Denver. The third puppy is 9-month-old Cowboy.

“It would have been their first show, but we thought they were ready,” said Lucky Watson, who along with his wife, Donna, owns the puppies. They have raised English bulldogs for 35 years as DoWats Bulldog. “We’ve never had any problems with burglars until now.”

Deputies responded to the burglary call Saturday morning in the 3700 block of Trails End Road near Burleson.

The Watsons had been out of town and left their 22-year-old grandson to care for the puppies, deputies said. The grandson fed the puppies Friday evening, went out for a while and returned to sleep. When he got up Saturday morning, the puppies were gone.

Deputies said the puppies are valued at $10,000 each.

Sounds like a good time to revisit one of my favorite Prissy stories.

About 15 years ago, we still lived in an apartment, and I was walking Prissy on leash.

A man in a brand new Jaguar stopped his car in the middle of the street, jumped out and said.."I have to have that dog..how much for that dog?"

I snapped back as fast as he got the words out..."TEN MILLION DOLLARS!!"

He truly looked depressed and rejected..got back in his car and drove off.

As a side note, Pris turns 18 1/2 this Sunday, and we just now returned from her Opthamologist..(that's right!)..she did well.

Got an estimate on how much you've spent on Prissy over the years? I bet it would make $10,000 look like small change.

She and Mei-Ling each see their Opthamologist..twice a year.

Prissy has an Internal specialist that..for that last 3 years or so..has given her a blood and urine test..every 4 months.

Tomorrow Mei-Ling gets her first annual "Senior blood work,."

We take good care of us..we take good care of them..everyone at my house gets the full treatment.

Poor puppies. I hope they are being treated kindly.

I don't know what I'd do if one of my doxies turned up missing. It's one thing to have a pet, and have to make that hard decision at the vet's office....but to not know what happened to it would be terrible.

If I see a dog in the neighborhood out, I do try to get ahold of it and call the owner...if it has tags. But most of the time I can't catch them.
