If you're ever in Indanapolis

Postby jellowrestling » Sat Jun 14, 2014 6:05 pm

Came to Indy see my daughter and son-in-law perform this weekend. Big collaborative effort between the dance company, symphony and symphonic choir (great show, btw).

This morning we met our daughter and s-i-l at a snooty little breakfast/lunch place called "Tulip Noir". They have lots of teas and coffees, and my daughter and s-i-l like the place. I thought it was a bit pretentious and a little overpriced, but not excessively, so what the heck.

When we got our food, my wife suddenly discovered that the flowers which had been placed as garnish had tiny bugs crawling on (and off of) them. And it was on top of the food. So, we alerted the waitress, who took the food away. My wife said, politely, to not bother bringing a replacement dish, and my daughter shared her food with her. No problem. Then my s-i-l discovered that he had the same bugs on his meal, which he had started eating. Suddenly, he was "full".

I pointed that out to the waitress and she took the food away.

When they brought the bill, they had taken off my wife's meal, but not my s-i-l's, which was sort of half-eaten. Waitress apologized, and they took that off the bill, too. We hadn't really said much about: the kids enjoy going there, and we didn't want to make too big a deal of it, but I wasn't going to pay for food that made people nauseous just thinking about it.

I paid the bill, and just after the waitress brought my change back, the owner came out and said that she understood that we were upset, but that their food doesn't have pesticides, it's natural, etc... and if we're going to eat at places with natural food, then we can expect...

I didn't hear any of the rest of it. Again, I bit my tongue because the kids were there. But what I really wanted to say, loudly, was, "So, if we come here, we should expect to have bugs in our food, and you think we should be OK with that?"

I left the tip I had planned to leave, because I had no problem with the service, but I really would like to go back and tell the owner of that place that she is an idiot. I'd really like to know if the health department has the same opinion about bugs crawling on food as the owner.

I may be in Indianapolis in August, but I imagine most of my dining will be at Taco Bell.

We will be in Indy in September for the Purdue vs. Norte Dame game at Lucas Oil Stadium. As we have little face time with son on game weekends; might have to do some sightseeing...
