Lake Levels

Postby millergrovesue » Sun May 24, 2015 3:00 pm

One of my cousins posted a couple of pictures of water running over the spillway and being released from Lake Texahoma this a.m.

So I decided to check lake levels in my beloved hill country.
Buchanan is at 40% capacity. Travis is 50% capacity. There is still a long way to go for those lakes.

A friend and her husband own a house on the Blanco in Wimberly. She posted on facebook that they were OK but there's so much damage. San Marcos' main fire station is flooded. We have a retaining wall and it's bowing out. Our son hasn't called so I'm going to assume that our place in Port Aransas is OK even though Corpus Christi is flooding and there was a tornado that hit an HEB in Corpus.

Yesterday was pretty frustrating. I have lots of container flowers and when they predicted 65 mph we moved them up onto the patio. Well, the ones we could move. Meanwhile, our daughter who lives in San Marcos called. She lives at McGhee Point, the point were the San Marcos and Blanco river meet. The house is on a bluff above the point so I wasn't worried about the rivers. Well, there's a huge ranch behind them and the water was pouring off that land onto hers. The power went off so she was in her car trying to charge her phone. The water was up to the back wheels of their vehicles in the driveway. The septic field was flooded and backing up into the toilets. The younger daughter calls and said the dam at Bastrop State Park failed and is flooding Copperas Creek and all the homes along there plus a housing development. Carrin worked at the park for years until she was asked to head up the systems update at headquarters in Austin. She did have an office at Bastrop SP but it burned down in the fire along with her state car. Next, son was on his way home from Port Aransas with friends. They were on 130 (the toll road) and had to get off due to flooding. They were in Lockhart. Never fear, they found an open bar! I wish I'd thought to open a bottle of wine!

I'm thinking I may not put out the rain barrels this year.

My sister lives on Shoal Creek in Austin. I tried to call her this a.m. but got no answer. Mom said she headed up to Round Rock to see Roger in the hospital at the height of the storm yesterday and made it there okay so I'm wondering if she spent the night up there.
