Saying good bye to the State Fair

Postby LibraryLady » Wed May 27, 2015 2:19 pm

I'm glad I will be old, dead and gone by the time all this comes to pass (or I hope so).
I LOVE, LOVE the great State Fair of Texas.

Seems that the current mayor of Dallas thinks it needs to go away and just be a little rural thing like the midwest has.

and now, everyone is jumping on board.......

yes, yes, privatizing things always is better! (eye roll)

Oh no! I've completely missed this. I never, in a thousand years, thought anyone would dare mess with the state fair, unless it was to enlarge it. What is with the new crop of mayors all across the USA? I can't stand to listen to NYC's mayor or the Dallas mayor. I guess I should listen but it sets my teeth on edge.

I think that is just a proposal that is being floated around. I doubt it ever sees the light of day. Does the mayor want to be associated with that stupid idea?

According to the article Mayor Rawlings has embraced the idea.
It will bring retail and apts to what is now Fair Park.
Apparently the person who drew up the plan thinks our fair is like a midwest county fair.
It makes me sick to thi k of the plan.

I guess the people who love the fair need to begin a campaign to stop it.

Would Mayor Rawlings like to live in an apartment in Fair Park. It's better than it used to be, but not THAT much better.

If you gave Dallas a stainless steel cannonball, incased in re-enforced concrete they would find a way to screw it up.

How did privatizing the Dallas Zoo work out ? and doesnt the City of Dallas own the Omni Hotel. I understand its a huge financial success, even Pegasus is happy to be there

If you want to save the fair, you're going about this the wrong way.

None of your "white people crying" is going to do any good. You need to find all the black guys waving cars onto their lots at $10-15 a pop and tell them that they are about to lose that money. Suddenly it will become a race issue; problem solved!

I spent a lot of nights sleeping in the cattle barns, stayed dry, warm.

Dallas has lost its soul. Hope they enjoy their fancy bridge. It's all they have now.

It is all about bringing economic resources to South Dallas to squeeze out the slum area.

Killing the state fair--has to be a better way, IMO.
