OMAHA, Neb. — TCU’s postseason magic continued Sunday at the College World Series.
The Horned Frogs scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to beat Texas Tech 3-2 in the CWS opener at TD Ameritrade Park.
After the Red Raiders scored twice in the top of the inning to claim a 2-1 lead, Keaton Jones led off with an infield single and moved over on Kyle Bacak’s sacrifice bunt. Cody Jones’ infield single to up the middle to second baseman Alec Humphreys. Humphreys made a nice stop, but his ill-advised throw to first was wild, which allowed Keaton Jones to come around with the tying run from second. Boomer White followed with a run-scoring single to left field as Cody Jones came home with the go-ahead run.
TCU closer Riley Ferrell, who entered the game with one out and a runner on in the eighth and allowed the Red Raiders to claim the lead, closed it out in the ninth to earn the win. Tech didn’t go quietly, however. The Red Raiders had two on with two outs before Ferrell (3-1) retired pinc-hitter Todd Ritchie to end the game in front of 24,587.
