Prayers appreciated if you are so inclined........

Postby millergrovesue » Mon Jun 29, 2015 5:30 am

.........for my little dog, Harry. He is having surgery this a.m. to try to prolong the eye site in his remaining eye. You animal lovers can certainly understand my trepidation and my request. I love this dog with all my heart and want the remainder of his life to be wonderful. Thanks so much. I appreciate it.

You got it.
Dogs are not the most important things in my life, but they are darn sure in the top five.

Please let us know how it goes.

Thank you thank you. I deeply appreciate your prayers. He did well and they are pleased with the outcome. Many more trips to Dallas for followups but today is over. I'm so very grateful that he seems okay. It was a long and harrowing day. I've been up since 3 a.m. and didn't sleep very well before then.

Got stuck in a $%&#@$ traffic backup as soon as I got off 635 and headed east on 30. At least 2 hours to get to Rockwall. All caused by about 1,000' of supposed construction at Dalrock. No workers, just several trucks and the pylons. Yeah, it's rush hour so let's not bother pulling in all the construction vehicles that are narrowing 30 to ONE LANE!!!!! By the time we got home the brand new bottle of Insulin, which must be kept cold and was cold when we left the vet's office, was room temperature. I hate #@#$%^& Dallas!!!!! Thank you GOD I don't have to live there.

Glad things went well.

It's called Ahmed procedure. A "tube" is inserted in the back of the eye to drain excess aqueous humor thereby lowering the pressure in the eye. Because dogs are, to quote my vet "so good at scarring" it's not a permanent solution. The dog will eventually grow scar tissue over the drain. She told me they would do the procedure twice then revert to counting on drugs to keep the pressure low but that all dogs will eventually go blind from glaucoma or die of old age. Pretty depressing news but we are counting every good day and, except for the itching and the danged E. collar, today is another good day. Drugs do work for awhile but ultimately fail. The Ahmed procedure gives longer independence from drugs. The drugs are used again when the drain fails for the second time.
