Why The American Revolution Was A Bad Deal
Re: Why The American Revolution Was A Bad Deal
One good thing about us winning our Independence is we weren't dragged into WW1 & WW2 2 years early.
A bad peace inevitably leads to a worse war.

The English didn't do slavery. If we had stayed with England there would have been no civil war.

"The English didn't do slavery."
lol
The English were the premier international slave traffickers of the western world, with its royal family directly profiting in their private capacities. England forced the Spanish colonies to buy a certain number of imported slaves per year in return for installing the House of Bourbon on the Spanish throne, and its government overruled a law of the Virginia colonial legislature prohibiting the importation of slaves.
lol

Had we stayed with England, there would have been no Union for the South to secede from. therefore, no Civil War.
Slavery would have been irrelevant.

England abolished slavery throughout the British Empire in 1843.
The slave trade had been abolished in 1808.

Re: Why The American Revolution Was A Bad Deal
They may have tolerated slavery in the empire, but they didn't have slavery in England.
Slavery had never been authorised by statute in England and Wales, and Lord Mansfield's decision found it also unsupported in common law. Lord Mansfield narrowly limited his judgment to the issue of whether a person, regardless of being a slave, could be removed from England against his will, and said he could not. Even this reading meant that certain property rights in chattel slaves were unsupported by common law. It is one of the most significant milestones in the abolitionist campaign.
