SnapScan Scanners
Have you used one? I just bought the Ix500 SnapScan by Fujitsu. I plan to scan in 20 years worth of genealogy research and then get rid of all the looseleaf notebooks, hanging files, etc. that are crowding me out of my computer room/office. So far I am very impressed. It is really fast! You load in up to 50 pages at a time. It scans both sides, and puts it all in a file that you can manipulate. When I say fast, I'm talking about a page a second! So far I am really impressed with this thing. Very small when closed too. Only drawback is kind of expensive, over $400.

Re: SnapScan Scanners
The scanner is the simplest thing in the world to use. Just grab a stack of paper and drop it in the top. Both sides are scanned either in B&W or in color, blank pages are skipped. Paper jams are very easy to clear, just open the front and lift it out. All scans are turned into either .pdf or .jpg files automatically. Then you can make any changes and corrections you want before you file them. You can also make them searchable or turn them into Word documents. I can put my whole collection on a thumb drive and give it to anyone I want to share with. Pretty neat.

My sis needs one of these. She is pretty disorganized when it comes to paperwork. 'Course she'd have to find the time to scan them categorize them.

Re: SnapScan Scanners
A whole lot of small business are using them and about every doctors office I visit. These scanners are the basis of "going paperless". I may do that myself once I finish my genealogy project. I think it may be the wave of the future.

Ah, Tiger Direct. It's Bob's favorite "toy store".

They closed their store in Dallas last year. I never bought anything there. Much prefer the Microcenter in Richardson. Don't care much for Fry's either. I bought the scanner from Amazon at about the same price.

I've been to Microcenter several times. Got my previous View Sonic monitor there. He buys Tiger Direct online. I didn't remember they had a store in Dallas.
My sis has had bad experience with Fry's and employees who didn't know their products.

Microscenter still sells a lot of Win 7 computers. Can't hardly find them anywhere else.

We're going to keep my Win7 drive in case I don't like Win10. The only problem with not being able to upgrade is that I'll have to transfer everything from the current drive onto the Win10 drive manually. That is a long and ugly process and I dread it like crazy.

Re: SnapScan Scanners
I had to send this laptop back to HP and they reinstalled 7. I only had Win 10 preview on it.
Knew they'd prolly reinstall 7 and they did. I got this little external drive (Toshiba) and
did a full backup -- got the laptop back and attempted to restore the whole thing
which I did beautifully. I had fewer than maybe 5% that I had to hand do.
Of course you gotta get permission from Windoze to reinstall that way but
that's a small irritation.
I'm having to send this computer back for hardware problems, but I have
done the same back up (which I'll do again before I ship it) and will use that
to restore everything.
I got the Toshiba external drive on a whim at Sam's for about a humdred
bucks. One of the best purchases I have ever made. Oh, and the back up
is very intuitive and anyone can do it.
Happy hunting, y'all

Sue,
Oh, I almost forgot.
It's a Toshiba Canovio (?) HD external ... 1.3 TB and NTI EZ Backup.
Slick.
The VM that I play with is free from Oracle.
