Just before midnight on July 18, 1969, U.S. Senator Edward "Ted" Kennedy drove a car off a wooden bridge into a tidal channel on tiny Chappaquiddick Island, an accident that took the life of Mary Jo Kopechne, a passenger in the car Kennedy was driving.
That's the official account. We'll never know what really happened.
