millergrovesue wrote:I don't think the early songs - bikini, purple people, Ally Oop, Witch Doctor and the like were bad. It was very early in rock and roll and those songs were written just to entertain (I guess it could be argued they all were/are written for that purpose but I think y'all know what I mean). If you want to compare those songs were far better/cheerier than Teen Angel, Big Girls Don't Cry, Billy Don't Be A Hero, Tell Laura..., Dead Man's Curve, etc. Heck, ya wanna get really old? How 'bout Mares Eat Oats and 3 Little Fishies? Fun songs. Mom sung them to us over and over.
I'll add most anything by Brenda Lee and Leslie Gore to the stinko list.

Send in the Clowns? Really? By one of America's greatest song writers, Stephen Sonheim. Was covered by just about every top artist. Streisand, Sinatra, you name it.

I'm sorry, but yes I just hate Send in the Clowns. Sad depressing with clowns mixed in..Yuck. I guess just because I hate it doesn't mean it's a terrible song.
Can't stand much of Neil Diamond's music either...which is strange because I'm a Barry Manilow fan. I can't put a finger on it but have never cared for Neil. Sweet Caroline is ok though.

Yeah, I'm in there with Neil Diamond. Few of his songs are worthwhile.
