It shows where the public's priorities are.

Not necessarily. Personally speaking I don't read most murder stories, car wrecks, robberies, kidnapping, etc. that are happening elsewhere on principal. Seems ghoulish to me. Just my opinion.

The media goes where the public's interest is.
We might start seeing roadkill discoveries and pound euthanasias dominating the headlines.

I think, to a large extent, the media creates public interest. They do know the prurient interests of some people but it's the media that pushes the stories. Chicken - egg - chicken - egg....................

The "biggest" story I've been seeing for several weeks is 2 country music singers (who I'd never heard of) who divorced after a 4 year marriage. Who gives a damn? They were married for 6 heartbeats for goodness sakes. Well apparently a bunch of really bored people care because it's been plastered absolutely everywhere. Did he cheat? Did she cheat? Did they both cheat? Again, who gives a damn. Certainly not I.

Today it's Reba and her divorce. I've heard of her but I still don't give a damn.

I totally agree with you on that.
If you watch any daytime TV you see even more of that kind of thing.
