An Austin City Council member’s proposal to regulate smoke wafting from barbecue joints into residential areas has been chewed over by two committees, who have now both decided they don’t much like the taste of it.
The council’s Health and Human Services Committee voted 4-0 Monday to not pursue a citywide policy that would mitigate barbecue smoke, just as the Economic Opportunity Committee voted in May.

OK, I admit I've been the recipient of comments our neighbors made when I grill steaks. The smell is truly incredible because I use a marinade of ginger and sesame. It isn't good on chicken, only beef. We only grill rib eyes. They're happy now since I happily shared. But when they make it, I'm jealous. We don't eat too much red meat though.

When I was growing up, we lived downwind of the Mrs. Baird's plant on Mockingbird. But it was a rare day, indeed, that we would catch a whiff of it, so we would sometimes ride our bikes a few blocks closer.

A facebook friend posted Friday evening that they had prospective buyers coming Saturday morning to view their home. Her dog got sprayed by a skunk. Dawn, peroxide and vinegar took care of the dog but the house? Besides Fabreeze, what to do? My suggestion? Homemade bread. It worked for me when we had an appraiser coming to the Port Aransas place. We'd considered drawing some money out of it because we paid cash. It worked! I gave him some to take home. But we decided not to take the money out. Thank goodness for freezers. I had hamburger buns all ready when the kids got there.
