How to clean baseball caps

Hints From Heloise: Cleaning baseball caps

Heloise

Dear Heloise: My son’s BASEBALL CAPS get filthy with sweat and dirt. Do you have hints on how to clean the caps while keeping their shape? -- Sandra L. in Oklahoma

As long as the caps are washable, and not old or valuable, there are a couple of things to try.

Try hand-washing the caps using a gentle soap (laundry detergent or shampoo) and water. Scrub the stains gently, inside and out, with a toothbrush. Under running water, rinse the caps, then shake out the water or pat the caps with a towel. Hang to dry, then place on an upside-down bowl or canister to keep its shape.

Another Heloise hint is to use the dishwasher. Attach the caps with clothespins to the TOP rack of the dishwasher. After the rinse cycle, take out the caps to air-dry. -- Heloise

I have washed my favorite ball cap for years in the top rack of the dish washer. Works fine

Do you use dish detergent to wash the cap, or just the hot water?

ewwwweee

I would not want my dishes washed with the oil from a scalp.
I'd do a separate wash cycle.......

It sounds like you need a new dishwasher.
If the dishwasher is doing it's job, it removes oil from the dishes regardless of where the oil came from.

Put 'em on the picnic table, squirt on Palmolive liquid soap and pistol-nozzle the heck out of 'em. Oh, and if a cap's bill isn't shaped the way you prefer, then's the time to train it with a rubber band.

Dishwasher here.

I have been wearing a cowboy hat more then a ball cap lately.

I must be getting older or more careful, but I am trying to keep the sun off of me when working at the farm.

Go Jo or some other brand of hand cleaner. The brush that comes with it works good.
