This is one of those nights

Sitting in the shop enjoying the cool air that the rain brought. Zapped me back to the fifties. When a nice cool summer rain would have us on the screened in porch, getting settled in for the night.

Our porch in Corinth, before I-35E, ran the length of the south side of the house. We had many chairs and cots out there because we didn't even have fans much less A/C.

Oh we did have one fan, a table model with brass blades and a guard on the front that you could stick a small dog through. I still have that fan,it's a little grouchy now and the motor gets hot when it is turned on so it's just a decoration.

I spent many a night on that porch in the summer time.

Remember the night sounds of the dog barking in the distance, the tree frogs and the occasional mockingbird with insomnia? Oh, and the infernal cicadas...

I remember nights when it was so hot my Momma would sprinkle water on my sheets before I went to bed, with one of those bottles you used to dampen your ironing.
