And those that oppose it tire of talking to brick walls, and people who ridicule them for feeling differently than the majority.
Lots of reasons.

Or it might have had something to do good liberals wanting to keep a Republican governor from Texas getting elected president. Those people didn't give a shit about the condemned.

Of course, ot all opponents of the death penalty are liberals. The same way that all Pro Lifers arent Conservatives that want to bomb abortion clinics. There ARE some people that have convictions that cross political boundaries, for what its worth.

Of course, but I'm talking about the sorry SOB's who postured outrage over the death penalty because they wanted to taint George Bush's candidacy. Probably not too many conservatives in that crowd. Compare how executions were covered by the national media in 1999 and how they are covered now.

We live with the results of a murder every day. Yes, I want the murderer dead. As it is, we face the possibility of him being released. We live with our best friends never having the joy of being grandparents, no matter how much they love children. We live with the thoughts of how did a really, really good young man (4.00 in college, while holding a full time job, was finished with college but never got to walk across the stage and get his diploma because he was murdered. The murderer was dismissed from the Marines because he wouldn't go to rehap FOR THE THIRD TIME! When he came home he asked Brian to get him a job. Brian did and murderer was fired the second day for having porn on his computer. Brian said "I'm done with you!" Brian never got to go to his dream job of being a police officer. He was to start in January and was killed the end of Nov. On Good Friday the next year, we were on our way to church and I knew something was up, but I knew it was a bittersweet thing. She was holding a book. The book had been published AND BRIAN HAD DONE THE ILLUSTRATIONS FOR IT. I didn't realize what a good artist he was until I saw the illustrations. If you think it was a fight or something...no, a group of friends refused to give him an alibi when he shot at another friend. So, he went to the poker party and walked in with a gun in his hand. Brian stood up and said "Don't be a fool...." and he had 12 entrance wounds. One in the back of his neck because he'd already fallen. Does the murderer deserve to live? I don't think so..............

probably not.

There is a dark sadness that envelopes an entire group of people.. those that are paid (and not very well) for putting their lives on the line, whenever one of their Brothers or Sisters is senselessly gunned down. An incredible, personal sadness. One that many can not.. or maybe will not understand.
that said, I can't even begin to agree with you about that.
There's a dark sadness because the police make such a huge deal about one cop dying.

I just think the cops should be more sad, and the world should be more sad, when a civilian life is lost in the same event.

THAT'S what's never supposed to happen.
Well, since they put their lives on the line every day for you and me.. I'd think they prevent far more innocent deaths than losing one. What makes you think the Police arent saddened by civilian death?

I haven't seen any parades or ceremonies for them.

There have been cases where a person sentenced to death was proven innocent (although I don't think there has been any case in the modern history of the U. S. where a person has been executed and later genuinely proven innocent). I don't mean the sort of case where activists pull the wool over the public's eye and claim that what they see as "reasonable doubt" amounts to "innocence".

In the case of one of the last executions here in Oklahoma, another man had spent years on death row for two rapes and murders before DNA cleared him and led to the arrest of this person. Granted, the first man had confessed in a videotaped interrogation but the judicial process is just too imperfect to be taking people's lives and I would have no problem dispensing with the death penalty in nearly all cases if I knew there would really be life imprisonment without possibility of parole. I believe it would have to be retained in the most extreme of cases, such as murder by a person already serving a life sentence or the most atrocious of murders where there is not only no reasonable doubt but no possible doubt.

----------------------------------------------- sounds reasonable to me Kiamichi . -------------------------------------- off topic a bit but my main problem is letting Violent people out of prison at all and I'm not talking about a couple of guys getting into a personal fist fight . I also have a problem with child molesters and sex criminals that are ever released from prison and I'm not talking about the 18 year old man that has sex with his 16 year old girlfriend . Like I said , kinda off topic !!

I don't think you see any parades for fallen officers. There may be large funerals, but those arent for you or the public anyway.
My Daddy had a three mile long funeral procession, and he wasnt anything more than a nice guy. So.. it happens.

Not just a cop..you don't go shutting down a freeway unless the road has been severely damaged..and cannot be traversed.

You certainly slow down and let emergency vehicles get through.

Life goes on.
