I have not been there.

But whatever the old and I guess original Grand Old Opry is now..I have performed there..probably 8 or 9 years ago.

I can't remember what it is called now, and I didn't even know it was the original Opry house until somebody told me. It was with the local Symphony.

I think the original house is called the Ryman Auditorium. I have never been to the Grand Old Opry but it is on my short list of stuff to do before it's too late.

Mother Church of country music. Performances still held there. A small part of stage has been removed to the "new Grand Old Opry" enjoyed both but Ryman breathes history while the new one is at the "Mall"

From what I have heard the Ryman was refurbished and greatly improved after the Opry moved, that before that it was known for its exceptional acoustics but was a rundown sweatbox without even air conditioning.

Sounds like the consensus is..the Grand Old Opry I was at was the "real " one.

I've toured the original Ryman and sat through one of the shows at the new one several years ago.

Nope. But I've been to Johnny High's place one time. About as close as I'll ever get to an Opry.

I've got a Jonny Lang CD that was recorded live at the Ryman. Does that count?
