Baker subs for Darvish, can't slow down Orioles
Rangers hold back Yu because of weather, get swept in Baltimore

By T.R. Sullivan / MLB.com

BALTIMORE -- Scott Baker has yet to earn a victory since joining the Rangers' pitching staff in May. Of course, wins have been hard to come by for all Rangers pitchers, especially lately.

Baker still deserves some kind of citation for valor simply for hanging around and being willing to take the ball on a moment's notice when others are unable to pitch, or for soaking up relief innings to keep the bullpen from being ripped apart.

Baker was thrown into the breach again on Thursday when the Rangers became overly concerned about potentially bad weather reports and decided to scratch scheduled starter Yu Darvish.

Bad weather never did cause the disruption the Rangers feared and Baker once again ended up as the fall guy in a 5-2 loss to the Orioles at Camden Yards. The victory gave the Orioles a sweep of the four-game series and the Rangers have now lost 14 of their last 17 games.

"We are very frustrated," outfielder Alex Rios said. "It is tough to deal with a situation like this. The only thing we can do is keep playing. There is nothing else we can do really, just enjoy our time on the field and make the best of it."
