An internet Australian friend (who writes science books) says this is a pretty big concern in Australia.

He says the problem is created when a tick is squeezed while removing it and the blood in its abdomen goes into the current victim. Now, in Australia , they teach to remove the tick, use a piece of ice and "freeze, don't squeeze" to remove the tick.

It still works for us. Grandson especially would probably prefer the ice.

Many years ago while cutting brush in Erath County, I found myself covered (as in more than a hundred) with "seed" ticks.

I filled a bath tub with warm water, added some dog dip to it and soaked in it for about 15 minutes, followed by a shower.

That got rid of them.

I hated "seed" ticks with a passion. We used sulphur in a sock and dusted it on our jeans and shoes. It helped some but not much.
