Head Lice

Did you have them or know anyone who did when your were in School

I didn't and I certainly did not attend school in a "upperclass" School District.

My Kids never actually had them, but we received warnings about the Lice.

One of the Grandkids actually got them awhile back.

Well I think you know my answer but I'll tell it once more.

We go to one of the newer nicer elementary schools Irving. For the first few years, no problem. Ever since February, we've had a problem off and on. When I went to school in IRving in the 70's, I NEVER had them or even knew of anyone who did. Wonder what happened?

My son had them once in elementary school but that was many years ago. His daughter will be starting 1st grade at that same elementary school. I fact, my son's 1st grade teacher is still teaching so she may get her for a teacher. I knew her in HS.

I was in her class her first year of teaching and my Grand Daughter was in her last day of teaching.

We both attended her retirement party.

My Dad, myself and my son all went to school in the same building. I it was a high school when my dad and I went, it was a jr. high when my son went.

Similar thing happened in our family.
When the teacher had my nephew in her class (another town, across the state) and she connected the two. She said it is time to retire! When I have taught the grandfather and grandson, it is too long!

At my Ex's funeral 4 years ago, there were multiple parent/child pairs that she had taught both! She was a second grade teacher.

That is exactly what this Teacher said - when you have taught three generations it is time to retire !

Would you believe she still remembered me ?

I told her that I still have the little toy truck she gave me for Christmas 50 years ago, she said she remembered giving all the boys a little truck and the girls a little doll all those years ago. She would have to answer to the Gender Gauleiters for that today.

When I was about 8, a business built some bungalows and moved several "low rent" families into our community. The families were certainly on the low end of social behavior and the kids introduced us to behaviors our community had never seen/experienced.

That same year head lice came to the school. Everyone blamed "the ranch kids." I brought home head lice. My mother was horrified, and mortified. She drove across Houston to a part of town where no one knew her and purchased the shampoo....She cut my hair to about a 3" length. We were all shampooed to the nth degree.

We learned to NEVER wear another kid's hat/cap nor even get near someone else's coat/hat etc.

If you have to search for nits, short hair is easier to handle.

Poor school nurse has to do hair checks from time to time. Of course if there is an outbreak in the school she checks the classrooms involved weekly. Not a fun part of the job.
