Muscle Shoals documentary

Postby jellowrestling » Mon Jul 21, 2014 11:04 am

My wife and I watched "Muscle Shoals", a documentary about the recording studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, where a lot of great artists have recorded. For anyone who enjoys 60s/70s music, I strongly recommend it.

I knew about the Funk Brothers in Detroit, the Wrecking Crew in L.A., and the Memphis Gang, but I didn't know anything about the "Swampers" in Muscle Shoals, a bunch of pasty white boys who looked like accountants, but who laid down funky grooves for Wilson Pickett, Percy Sledge, the Staple Singers, Etta James, Aretha Franklin and a lot more.

The Rolling Stones, Bob Seger, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rod Stewart, etc...

Duane Allman was a studio musician in Muscle Shoals, and the Allman Brothers Band emerged from there. Highly recommended.

GFB: have you ever done any recording there?

Hence the line "Now Muscle Shoals got the Swampers" in Sweet Home Alabama.

It's been playing on KERA and KERA2 for months now. I can't find any listing of it being repeated on their website.
