I keep a dish of brightly shined dollar coins on my desk, and Andrew, my now 5-year-old grandson, has been getting one on visits here since he first noticed the "big pennies" when he was a couple of years old.
During a visit Sunday, his grandmother gave him an Andrew Jackson golden dollar because his family had just visited The Hermitage in Nashville during the family's summer vacation.
What do you say, Andrew?
"Thank you," the young man dutifully replied.
Then grandma gave Andrew's 3-year-old sister, Louise, a dollar coin bearing the image of Sacagawea, the Indian woman who accompanied the Lewis and Clark expedition.
What do you say, Louise?
"Can I have another one?"
