I did a net search on what day of the week in 1969 and the response was Sunday.
Maybe you were getting some overtime.

As I recall it took forever before they stepped out of the LEM after they landed around 10:30 or 11:00 PM Texas time as I remember.

The internet calendar says it was a Sunday.

A Sunday afternoon, watching Walter Cronkite, wondering if they could crank it back up to come home.

I was 15. Watching it on our color TV. I was a bit disappointed that it was black & white. I believe Jules Bergman was the main reporter. I remember going outside to look at the moon & thinking it would never be same. I figured we'd have a colony there & be on Mars by 2000. I guess not.
I feel like I'm parked diagonally in a parallel universe.

I was on staff at El Rancho Cima buy scout camp. My wife and I had the only TV in camp. We set up the TV in the chow hall and that night, we plus 300_ scouts watched the whole thing. Bever before or since have I seen that many scouts be so quiet.

I was going to summer school at North Texas State (making up for a ridiculously difficult French class at UT). My recollection is that they cancelled classes on Monday because everybody was up late Sunday night.

I was stationed right outside of Tokyo, where it happened about Noon or so on Monday.
I went bar hopping that night and all my drinks were comped, either by the bar or customers. The Japanese thought it was a really big deal.
They were a lot more excited about it than I was.

We were doing the same in our den in University Park. I'm sure our relatives in Munday, the Offutts, were doing the same. :)

I was in a similar situation in Copenhagen, Denmark. I was on leave checking out northern Germany and Denmark, not even really that aware of the situation. Whenever anyone there found out I was an American it was drinks and questions about how proud I was to be an American. There was some sense of that but they were far more impressed than I was at the time. I was far more interested in just trying to mingle with the local populace at least the feminine gender portion of it.
Sadly/happily that didn't happen until the next day when I met a couple of American women at the "Little Mermaid" sculpture and spent the day touring breweries in the city. :)
