One of my favorite memories of my dad and our older son was when "Poppa" was teaching Cameron to skip rocks in the park pond.
Cam would select little limestone rocks one by one from the bank, asking each time if the rock was a proper shape for skipping multiple times across the water. Poppa would ascertain each pebble and deem it a suitable using the outdated terms only someone of our Greatest Generation raised in Chicago could muster.
I could tell Cam was studying the rocks, trying to learn the criteria for great skipping stone selection. I recall at one point, Cam proudly proffering a stone and asking, "Poppa, is this one a humdinger or a doozie?"
