These are names of varieties of peas. "field peas" is a term used to let the other person know you are not talking about peas such as English peas.
All these peas are "cousins."
Purple hull peas = pea looks very similar to a black eyed pea, but the hull (pod) is purple.

I was having leftovers last night and I added some rotel tomatoes to my peas. It was good!

I've done that too. This time I just added some jalapenos. But, turns out it wasn't enough because I can't even taste them. They were still good. Cooked 'em in the crock pot for about 10 hours then added the fried ham. We had those, salad, and Bob made cornbread in the cast iron skillet. As my Furbie would say "Yummmmm Yummmm".

She is talking about snap beans, and the pot liquor someone mentioned is not an alcoholic beverage.

Yours is a far better choice than BEPs, better known as cow food in most of North America.
