I guess I'm lucky. My Doctor has stayed on with me all the way through. My Doctor has also referred me to at least six specialists in the last three years and ALL have been American. I have several friends who have also found their Doctors staying with them or, if not, quickly and easily finding another Doctor. All of them are good ole American guys!

I fired the vascular surgeon I'd been going to for years. He's American. I am now going to Dr. Yau. I'm not sure what his ancestry he is, but I'm pretty sure he was born here. His English is perfect, no accent at all, not even Texan. I care what they do, not where they came from. If I can't understand what someone's saying, I'm not going back, though. Studies have shown that patients only really absorb about 10-20% of what the doctor has said. I can't imagine absorbing most of what the doctor says if I can't understand him or her. I'm foreign language disabled...my husband and son can understand almost everything servers say, no matter what language.

I'm going to a new primary care doctor Monday and he's not American. If he seems OK I won't be going back to the American one I've been seeing for the last 18 years. Actually, my cardiologist told me to dump him 3 years ago. But, I couldn't see doing it unless I had some reason to believe the new one would be better. But, how do you know? I finally decided I had to do something so it's a leap of faith. The new guy wasn't my first choice, but he probably couldn't be any worse.
