Pure speculation on my part.

But, what if he ran to avoid arrest, swallowed whatever drug he was selling, and got so stoned he couldn't function ?

He was being dragged at one point, but as he is going into the van, you can see him stepping into it. He was just resisting arrest.

Ralph, there is no suggestion or charge that Gray was injured anywhere else but in the van.

The charges are all based around not strapping him in.

I'd think not strapping in a guy whose hands are cuffed behind his back (which I assume his were) is inviting disaster.

Just read this: "The announcement by Baltimore City State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby left no doubt about what she thinks happened April 12, when Gray was arrested: The 25-year-old died, she said, after suffering "a severe and critical neck injury" while being transported 'handcuffed, shackled by his feet and unrestrained' inside a police van. It is against police policy to transport a prisoner without proper restraints such as a seat belt."
In my book there is absolutely no excuse for this treatment. Makes all the rest of the charges and accusations against the cops much more believable.

The prosecution seems to be conceding that Gray's injuries were self-inflicted while he was confined alone in the van (separated from the other prisoner by a partition) and that the "murder" consisted of allowing him enough freedom of movement to hurt himself. No way will that fly in court, the charges will have to be reduced.

Seems like typically toxicology reports aren't available for weeks. Yes, it will be interesting to hear how this all plays out. Still it's very sad and disturbing for all involved.

I wonder if all the focus on police violence is causing fewer people to choose that line of employment.

Any reports that indicate anything other than the cops being cold-blooded racist killers will be met with accusations of cover-up and more rioting.

Things in Baltimore are going to get really bad.

A Baltimore police organization called for the chief prosecutor to step down from the Freddie Gray investigation on Friday because of her political links to the lawyer representing the dead man's family.

On Friday morning, State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby declared that Gray's death was a homicide. She issued arrest warrants for all six Baltimore Police Officers who 'illegally' detained the 25-year-old on April 12.

The driver of the van, Officer Caesar R. Goodson Jr, faces the most serious charge, second-degree depraved heart murder, carrying a maximum sentence of 30 years.

The open letter was posted to the Baltimore City Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lodge 3's Twitter account minutes before the officers were charged.

Signed by the organization's president, Gene Ryan, the letter read: 'While I have the utmost respect for you and your office, I have very deep concerns about the many conflicts of interest presented by your office conducting an investigation in this case.'

The Gray family lawyer, Billy Murphy, was a big campaign donor to Marilyn Mosby last year when she ran for State's Attorney, donating the maximum individual amount allowed, $4,000, in June. Murphy was also on Mosby's transition team after the election and has been described as a 'mentor' to her.

Baltimore police policy dictates that arrestees placed in a police van must be restrained with a seat belt. However, the president of Baltimore’s Fraternal Order of Police has argued that the policy went into effect just days before Gray’s arrest. He also said that the new policy was not being properly communicated to beat officers.

The rioters and thugs (yep, I'm using that word) were appeased. What happens when bad behavior is appeased? More bad behavior because it works. A couple things really bother me....one is that George Soros (according to tax records) has financed "demonstrators" and paid for the buses that transported them to Ferguson. That is a fact. He freely admitted it. Another thing is that the 6 officers have been charged and will stand trial. But what about those "demonstrators" who were arrested? I suspect it will be a slap on the wrist.
If Soros has his finger in anything, I guarantee it is evil. He's evil. He helped the Nazis. He's Jewish and helped the Nazis. He brought down the Bank of England and wrecked the economy of England. Here he is in the USA and does his best to bring it down. I hope he's not a citizen and am afraid to google it because if he's not, he can be deported.

Does anyone remember Obama's goal to have a national police force EQUAL to our Army? I do. It's a frightening thought and I've never forgotten it.
