In all states, people are allowed to put their noses together..a separate issuing from destroying the institution of marriage.

As I've stated before, I believe all those who choose divorce, when they decide they are no longer "in love" - whatever the hell that means, rather than honoring their marriage vows - usually made before, and therefore TO God, as well as their partner, have done far more to destroy the supposed institution of marriage than those who are now allowed the same legal rights as the rest of us. And I'll go further..I think a primary reason young people are so pro gay marriage, is that so many of their parents have divorced..young people see no value in marriage..nothing to protect or put a value on.

They are consciously choosing to destroy it further.

Define the "Bible", if you mean the Canonical scripture used by Catholics and Protestants I am unaware of any new texts.

The twisting of the texts based upon what is in vogue; has a longer history with the Christian Bible; than the SCOTUS has with the USC.

My problem with this decision is that the definition of Marriage is outside the purview of the Legitimate Role of the Federal Government as defined in the USC; and the rules for Civil Marriage belong to the States and the People.

I'm not aware of these texts. They aren't found in the Old Testament and I don't think that there were new texts regarding marriage other than the withdrawn permission for divorce. I'm just not seeing the problem some of you seem to be seeing. I would really like to be directed to such texts. I know I have much to learn.

I am not making an argument for the religious definition of marriage; just civil marriage - anyone that can read write and recollected can see it by going up in this thread. I did respond to J-I-P's comment on the Biblical definition of marriage; my comments on that stand.

You forgot hatred and fear. Yes. My brother's partner's story of getting the marriage license is touching and funny. I'm so very happy for them.

I've seen families take out their hostility on the remaining partner when the other dies. Had it happen to a precious friend of mine, who was literally thrown out of his home with only the clothes on his back when his partner died suddenly from a heart attack. He was not allowed to keep any of the things they had acquired over more than 15 years together. And I've have heard so many similar stories from my brother and from other friends. Thank God these people are now be legally protected from evil hateful vengeful families who choose not to honor their supposed loved one's requests!!!

Well, that's good.because I think what we all need to be prepared for is two things.

One..many gay people will think this decision somehow protects them from people legally "discriminating" against them. It is likely to have just the opposite effect. The bakeries and restaurants that chose not to participate in gay ceremonies up until now..were in states where gay marriage was legal.

Now we will witness what the same types of people will do when their state had NOT allowed gay marriage. These states are full of businesses that will be even LESS ready to participate in them.

And we should also expect the worst people in the gay lobby to now turn their ugliness on churches.

In short, this decision will not unify, it will turn differences of opinion into..something much more virulent.
