He didn't say it in the debate; but a few weeks ago he called it a symbol of hate and division or some similar horseshit.

I think they do matter.
Rick Perry was sent to oblivion in 2012 by his debate brain lock. He had been the front runner. He never came back.
Fred Thompson was ruined as front runner by his 2008 debate performance.
Al Gore's sighing while Bush talked lost him 10 points in 2000.
Ford's Eastern Europe gaffe probably cost him the election against Carter in 1976.

Agreed. These early debates help narrow the field and test and re-test the candidates to see who's singing the same tune consistently or who changes key. I thought Huckabee was O-U-T but he showed up last night. I had a neutral opinion of Paul... no more; he's toast. Rubio came across as too slick. Carson is someone I'd want in the cabinet or as veep but he doesn't have the chutzpah to be POTUS. And so.

These early rounds aren't definitive by any stretch, but they have a valuable purpose.

Trump is definately the wild card here. I know I said he's peaked. But, he might not come down. In that case has anyone thought about a Trump/Florina ticket? Kind of mind boggling don't you think?

Trump can't be nominated and if he is he can't beat Hillary.
Of the rest, there are only a couple that have a chance of beating her.
I think Fiorina has the best chance. Rubio is the other one, even though I don't like him.
Jeb Bush can't win. He has the persona of a boring Elmer Fudd. Christie and Kasich have an outside chance. I haven't made my mind up on them.

Has Carly gone bankrupt?
I read she was fired as CEO of Hewlett-Packard.
It was over her acquisition of Compaq Computer.

She had a hand in torpedoing Lucent, and almost sinking HP.

Neither went Bankrupt, Lucent was teetering on the edge before they found a buyer however.

Carly was your typical corporate pirate, and she helped gut Lucent and an old line well respected company HP; that is the only thing I don't like about her.

She is much more suitable for POTUS than Trump, IMO.

I'm not sure she screwed up Lucent. She was an officer with Lucent when HP hired her away as its CEO. She must not have been too bad.
There are people on both sides of her performance at HP. Some say she did a good job, many say she didn't.
At least she's had a real job. That's more than 90% of the politicians can say.

Does any one think it's odd Karl Rove was nowhere to be found last night with or without his white board telling us how uninformed we were?

Apparently, Bush's brain has been demoted to the radio. http://www.cnn.com/2015/08/07/politics/karl-rove-donald-trump-rand-paul-gop-debate/index.html

Just finished listening to Trump on "CNN Tonight" answering all kinds of questions about the debate off the cuff for almost an hour. You can't adlib like that unless you are completely honest saying what you really think. He flaunts it, but you can do that if you've got it. This may be Peak Trump, but I'll admit that I'm enjoying the hell out of it.

I'm still for Cruz but Fiorino is awesome, too. She needs money and I'm hoping that people will contribute, I did and will again. I've watched all her videos that I can find on-line. She started asking for $3 contributions and I believe that helped her since most candidates were asking for $50. It's a lot easier to contribute $3 when you're not really sure if she'll be a good candidate. Now it's up to $13. OK, the common person can usually donate that. The HP firing is very much immaterial to me. A lot of other things converged. I'll trust my husband's judgment on that since he actually watches tech developments closely. He was offered a job at HP. The deciding factor wasn't Fiorina or HP. It was California, and moving there. It is a beautiful state however, he didn't like 14 yr. old girls looking and acting like 21, giving up our cattle and horses, etc.

Not that it'll matter to anyone here.

A friend works for HP , before /during and now after Fiorina . He doesn't think highly of her and what she did during her tenure. Now he's not in the board room or even close, hes' worked with wallyworlds back end over the years.

It matters to me.
I've been Fiorins's biggest cheerleader, here. The more I read about her tenure at HP, the more questions I have about her. It looks bad no matter how one tries to air brush it.

Ann,
I like Cruz a lot, but I don't think he can win the general election.
He has pissed off too many GOP leaders and big wigs.
If he gets the nomination, he'll be Goldwaterized by them in the general election.
I believe our most important goal is to beat Hillary. Cruz can't do it.

The party didn't want Reagan to win, either. He won a pair of landslides.

They had him on Fox and Friends the next morning to tell us all how great Jeb Bush is. Click.

Mark,
The party didn't want Reagan to win in 1976 when he challenged Ford, and Regan didn't win.
The party structure didn't oppose Reagan in 1980 and certainly not in 1984.

The party still didn't want Reagan in '80. They knew they had no choice in '84.

The party elites have always resented the conservatives. If we are going to take the stance that conservatives have no place of power in the Republican party, then it is time to retire the Republican party.
