I think it was a big mistake to allow professional athletes in basketball. What kind of sport is it when the same team always wins by 30 or 40 points. Why bother watching that kind of nonsense.

I agree. I also do not like golf or tennis due to the professionals being allowed to compete.

Can anyone think of a reason why the athletes would make up such a story?

I cannot.
-------------------------------------- morning Greg , as can be seen I modified / edited your question . As far as WHY would the swimmer / swimmers / athletes might lie . As I said , might just be looking for more fame and 15 minutes of importance . Kinda related but WHY would a grown man like 'ryan lochte' BLEACH his hair [he wants MORE attention] . Anyway , looks like this possible robbery is all the rage in Brazil as I see that its a current news story on FOX .

and some politicians , schumer I think were pushing the idea that these possible athletic 'olympic' heros [or zeros] should be allowed to collect their prizes and monetary windfalls tax free . This robbery story may put a crimp in those plans . Off topic comment .

I don't really have a problem with professional athletes being allowed to participate. Some countries were already paying their athletes anyway. I want to see the best at each sport. If they have to pick between making a living or being an amateur to participate in the olympics, many of them will go for the bucks and I don't blame them. They put a lot of work in...

This is what made Miracle on Ice such a remarkable Olympic achievement. Nobody was expected to compete with the best collection of hockey players the Soviet Union could put together. And the U.S. team knocked them off with a bunch of college amateurs. It's not the same when the team is basically an NHL all-star team.

FOX is reporting that the alleged drunk swimmers trashed a gas stations restroom and the security guard held them at gun point while the drunk athlete's paid for the damages . If the swimmers lied about the original robbery claim they could face 3 years in jail . -------------------- reminds me of the millenial from the 'usa' that went to north korea and stole a wall hanging off a north Korean hotel wall . He was caught , think that he is plowing fields somewhere in north korea as I type .

yeah , its funny , they were already famous , girls and others of various sexes and genders of all ages idolized them , they had money , fame , probable endorsements on 'speedo's' and swim caps , hair bleach , yada , yada . Course , let me say that the swimmers might be innocent. ------------- I also heard a blurb that compassion and forgiveness should be show to these KIDS that are actually ADULT males !!

Well that is just dumb if it's true. Lochte should have kept his mouth shut and moved on along if he started the trouble.

Brazilian police have reportedly indicted Lochte and Feigen for falsely reporting a crime.

I heard this scenario on the radio this afternoon and it makes perfect sense. Because it involves nookie.

Lochte has a Playboy model girlfriend who went with him to Rio. Lochte and his buddies go to a party, get wasted, and end up staying out all night, Faced with having to deal with "where were you all night?" he concocted the robbery story.

guessing , but now the talk I to forgive them because they are kids breaking some silly rule . Its just millennial hi jinks . If I was a Brazilian i'd be milking this for all that is is worth for awhile at least . Then maybe some forgiveness after a public apology and some groveling to the wunnerful Brazilian people . [and a big cash payment to brazil thrown in there somewhere]
