A flashlight upgrade

We have a flock of little cheap flashlights scattered around the house — desks, nightstands, TV and computer tables, etc. They're of the Dollar Tree variety, 3-LED, silver-colored and a couple of inches long. I find it handy to just reach over and grab a flashlight when I need one rather than having to get up and go poking around in drawers.

Yesterday I noticed something unusual about the flashlight by the wife's laptop. It was different. Still silver and with the switch on the end, but it was longer by a half-inch or so. Looking at it more closely, I discovered that it was a 9-LED light rather than a 3.

What happened? How did I suddenly become the possessor of a quality flashlight mixed in with my el cheapos? I didn't buy it. My wife says she didn't buy it. Where did it come from?

:?

The flashlight angel must have left it in the middle of the night while you slept.

The NSA forgot and left it while they were putting Kiddie Porn on your hard drive.

I think I've come up with an explanation in "The Case of the Amazing Upgraded Flashlight." We've been having a drove of AT&T techies in the house as they try to fix repairs that they made to repairs that they made... (But that's another story.) I'll bet one of them put down his flashlight after using it to look at a plug-in or something and then picked up ours by mistake. Thanks, AT&T.
