Apollo 11's Buzz Aldrin asks world:
Where were you while I walked
on moon 45 years ago Sunday?

BUZZ ALDRIN VIDEO

Marcia Dunn / The Associated Press

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - On July 20, 1969, Buzz Aldrin was "out of town" when the world united and rejoiced in a way never seen before or since.

He and Neil Armstrong were on the moon.

They missed the whole celebration 45 years ago this Sunday. So did Michael Collins, orbiting solo around the moon in the mother ship.

Now, on this Apollo 11 milestone — just five years shy of the golden anniversary — Aldrin is asking everyone to remember where they were when he and Armstrong became the first humans to step onto another heavenly body, and to share their memories online.

I watched it on a BW TV in my third grade class, drinking my 10 cent chocolate milk. We got milk breaks - .05 white, .10 chocolate - a pint

I was sitting in my grandmother's den, watching the moon landing, on her color TV.

Wasn't it broadcast late at night here in Dallas? Seems like I was allowed to stay up really late to watch it at my Grandmother's house.

Or maybe that was something else.

But I didn't see it at school...it was at my Grandmother's house.

It happened on a Sunday, but I have no idea of what time here on earth.

I recall that my sister and her 4 children had come to visit me. We watched on a b/w TV.

I was a young married with no children. When she got home, they boxed up some toys and sent them to me so that I had some toys for visits that would include children. LOL

8:39:33 p.m. Dallas time. But that was when Neil stepped out. I don't know how long after that Buzz touched down. (I looked it up. :D )

If we are talking about the first time Neil Armstong walked on the moon ( A small step for man, a giant leap for mankind) I watched it with my father on our color tv, although the picture was in black and white and not real clear. At the time, I was a teenager and we lived in the Houston area. I remember it being on late at night, maybe between 12:00 am- 2:00 am. My mother couldn't stay up and was in bed, so it was pretty late. Did Buz walk out with him? Maybe he is refering to a different walk on the moon?

What day of the week, BoB?

I could have sworn all these years that it was in the middle of the night.

My memory must be faulty.

My recollection is that I didn't see it live because I was working on the night shift at a summer job at the hub cap factory, so I don't think it was a Sunday.
