Fingertip Scan Required For Texas Driver's License

A new policy by the Texas Department of Public Safety is getting some mixed reviews from the public.

When it comes time to renew your driver's license, or get a new driver's license you will now have to hand over 10 pieces of information. What was once just one finger print to get a driver's license has now turned into 10. You will now have to photo scan all 10 of your fingertips.

According to DPS, the 10 fingerprint policy was implemented earlier this year after funding for this expansion was approved by the Texas Legislature. And the reason behind this change is to help reduce fraud and identify theft. They say 10 fingerprints, rather than just one can accurately establish a person's identity.

DPS is also hoping this change will deter terrorist and other criminals from getting a Texas driver's license. DPS adds that the fingerprint images are not used to search an applicant's criminal history.

As of now there is no way of opting out of this new policy. If you don't want to scan all 10 of your fingerprints, you will simply not get a driver's license. — By Angelica Brown

I guess that does away with renewal via the computer.

I just held my hand on the computer screen for scanning. . . NOT

here in Ga you gotta have:
Birth certificate or passport
mailing to home address with your name (bank statement/utility bill/etc)
social security care of proof of SSN
name change (marriage) you'll need marriage license.
Four boxes keep us free:
the soap box, the ballot box, the jury box, and the cartridge box.

This is just a right-wing plan to deny drivers licenses to minorities.

Read a story in the paper (and we know those are always true)....that the purpose of the prints--to compare to unsolved crimes/check against criminal database is not working out. The problem is that DPS clerks did not properly wipe the screen between prints, so that the screens show "ghost" images --at least 2 prints showing, so all the prints taken in the past were worthless for reading.

I already had to do that for my Hazardous Materials endorsement. And as of last January, I have to get (and pay) for new license every year when I renew my DOT physical. What bullshit.
