Clinton throws Berry Under the Bus

Postby planosteve » Sun Aug 10, 2014 5:37 pm

Washington (AFP) - Former secretary of state Hillary Clinton blamed the rise of Islamist militants in Iraq and Syria on failures of US policy under President Barack Obama, in an interview published Sunday.

"The failure to help build up a credible fighting force of the people who were the originators of the protests against Assad —- there were Islamists, there were secularists, there was everything in the middle -— the failure to do that left a big vacuum, which the jihadists have now filled," Clinton told the Atlantic.

Clinton, widely considered an undeclared presidential candidate, was an unsuccessful advocate of arming the Syrian rebels when she was secretary of state during Obama's first term.

She was interviewed before the US president's decision Thursday to order limited air strikes to check an IS offensive into Kurdistan, which threatened US nationals and facilities and sent thousands of refugees fleeing into the mountains.

Obama, who oversaw the US withdrawal from Iraq in 2011, vowed not to send US troops back into the country and said Iraqis needed to confront the jihadist threat by forming an inclusive unity government.

..View gallery US President Barack Obama (R) speaks as Secretary of State Hillary Clinton listens during a cabinet …Clinton, however, suggested in the interview that Obama lacked a strategy for dealing with the jihadist threat.

"Great nations need organizing principles, and 'Don't do stupid stuff' is not an organizing principle," she said referring to an Obama slogan.

She said the United States must develop an "overarching" strategy to confront Islamist extremism, likening it to the long US struggle against Soviet-led communism.

"One of the reasons why I worry about what's happening in the Middle East right now is because of the breakout capacity of jihadist groups that can affect Europe, can affect the United States," she said. "Jihadist groups are governing territory. They will never stay there, though. They are driven to expand. Their raison d'etre is to be against the West, against the Crusaders, against the fill-in-the-blank—and we all fit into one of these categories.

"How do we try to contain that? I'm thinking a lot about containment, deterrence, and defeat," she said.

Her arguments, seen as an attempt to distance herself from Obama, echoed those of Republican critics who accuse Obama of allowing a power vacuum to develop by failing to bring US leadership to bear in conflicts from Syria to Iraq to Ukraine.

Clinton is planting both feet firmly in the Neocon camp. I don't think anyone can outwarmonger her. The Republicans will have to run McCain again if they want to try.

This is her distancing herself from Obama. There'll be a lot more of this kind of thing coming from her. You can't believe anything she says.
I hope people have learned that she is a habitual liar. Surely they have after all these years.

Going to make a prediction, not that I am a wise old soul, but before the 2016 vote, some of these mid east nut jobs will pull some stunt to show that they can. Rand, Hillary, and a bunch more are going to get on the kick their a$$ band wagon, or try to be in the negotiate with a terrorist wing of either party. John Kerry and a few more are going to have to answer how they sat on their hands and allowed it to happen, fair or not.
The pacifist party has never held power for too awful long and when it hits the fan, they will be a small community probably just north of the golden gate bridge or in a commune smoking dope in Colorado.

Why should we pay any attention to what this woman has to say? She can't even tell us what happened at Benghazi.

I don't buy that the Democrats are a pacifist party. Roosevelt was in charge when WWII began. Truman got us into the Korean war. LBJ got us into the Viet Nam war. Obama has drug out the Afghanistan war for another 6 years. He campaigned on having ended the Iraq war, now he blames Bush for pulling out all of the troops. Gitmo is still up and running.

This just in . . . it's all good.

EDGARTOWN, Mass. (AP) — After distancing herself from some of President Barack Obama's foreign policy, former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton called her ex-boss Tuesday to try to smooth things over and planned on "hugging it out" in person at an upcoming get-together.

Clinton spokesman Nick Merrill said Clinton told Obama by phone that nothing she said in a magazine interview was an attempt to attack him or his leadership. The call came on the eve of a party on Martha's Vineyard that Clinton and Obama planned to attend.

Clinton's assessments of Obama's foreign policy to The Atlantic came at a sensitive time for both her and Obama. She is preparing for a possible second try for the presidency and he is grappling with how far to involve the United States in explosive disputes in Ukraine, Syria, Gaza, Iraq and elsewhere.

Clinton, who carried out Obama's diplomacy in his first term, described a different approach she would take in places like Syria and the Mideast. And she rebuked Obama's cautious approach to global crises.

"Great nations need organizing principles, and 'don't do stupid stuff' is not an organizing principle," she said in a weekend magazine interview, referring to a version of the phrase Obama and his advisers have used privately to describe his approach to foreign policy.

Merrill said Clinton continued to share Obama's "deep commitment to smart and principled foreign policy," has touted his achievements and was honored to be part of his team, despite some differences.

"Some are now choosing to hype those differences but they do not eclipse their broad agreement on most issues," Merrill said in a written statement. "Like any two friends who have to deal with the public eye, she looks forward to hugging it out when they see each other tomorrow night."

Clinton and Obama were planning to attend a party Wednesday night on Martha's Vineyard for Ann Jordan, wife of Democratic adviser Vernon Jordan. Clinton is on the Massachusetts island for a memoir-signing session at a bookstore, while Obama is in the midst of a two-week vacation.

The White House initially said Obama didn't plan to see Clinton while she was on the island. But after the interview was published, the White House said Obama decided to go to the party.

Hillary had Bill's number decades before she made the "Vast Right Wing Conspiracy" accusation, she is just a bald faced serial liar - people that believe her Lies are the stupid and/or evil people.
