Our Mr. Coffee no frills dripper appears to be entering the last stages of it's life cycle.

This one is probably 3 or 4 years old.

When entering into a major purchase such as this( if you figure a life cycle of 3.5 years divided by an initial cost of 35 bucks thats about .03 cents a day) we like to discuss options.

Donna is pondering the pros and cons of drip coffee maker VS percolator.

In order to make a show of pretending that I have a preference, I have chosen the drip coffee maker. This decision was made after growing up in the olden days when percolators were the only choice, and living in a house where the coffee pot was on from sunrise till bed time and remembering that last cup of awful burn't tasting mud that had sat in the pot for hours.

My father had one..he's been gone for 42 years, and that's the last time I saw one.

Keurig, one of the best investments I've ever made. It took a lot of experimenting to find a good replacement for the over priced but convenient K-cups. I tried a thing from Walmart that uses little filters, a Melitta substitute, an EcoLogic, as well as the Keurig replacement and finally found my favorite at Target. I don't know the brand, but it's red with a stainless filter and a real metal hinge pin. I believe it's also available in all stainless.
The model I bought has an on/off timer, cup size selection and temperature control. The temperature of coffee is something I had never considered, but after reading through all the propaganda that came with it, I found I now agree with them and have never messed with the 192 degree temperature setting. It's been an everyday friend for more than two years. Having said that I'm sure it will die tomorrow just to spite me.

I had two Keurigs less than 6 months old die on me. I bought them at Bed Bath & Beyond and they exchanged each one out for a replacement for me. When the third one died I changed it out for a Cuisinart brand that takes the K Cups. It's 3 years old and still running like it did when new. My recommendation is that whatever you buy get it at BB&B because they are fantastic about taking back the broken one and replacing it.

I prefer a Percolator, and I have a couple I use. For the couple of cups in the morning before dashing off to work I use an under the counter drip maker. The down side to a Percolator is they are more trouble to clean.

We have a Kuerig thing at the office, I prefer the drip maker there over the Kuerig thing.

The best of the best are grounds boiled in a syrup bucket over a wood fire

If you drink a lot of coffee like I do, the K cups get expensive.

Keurig here. We love it since we get up at different times. I'm an early riser, hubby a late riser( when he can sleep). It used to be that I'd make the coffee at 6:30. I can't imagine how awful it would be by 10 am. Sometimes, paying a little more is well worth it. It's that way with us and coffee.

We have a Jura ENA 3 automatic coffee machine. Wife use to manage a Starbucks location and grew to love expresso/strong coffee.
If you want great coffee , this machine makes it.

I've had a Keuring that has worked fine for at least a few years now. Mostly, I have some reusable k Cups that I fill with coffee myself. But, I still miss my Cuisninart drip coffee maker with the metal carafe especially on Saturday mornings. The coffee stayed warm without getting stale.

Not if you buy the reusuable cups and fill them with your own coffee.

Hmmmm....I haven't noticed any grounds in my coffee with the reusable cup.

My husband buys the very large (54 cup) box of Keurig donut house coffee for me. The Garland Walmart has it for $23. It's ironic that he can't find his favorite (Newman's) in that size. AND they don't always have the big box.

Twas a Christmas gift from the in-laws a few years ago. Wife wanted a grind & brew machine and f-i-l bought a much nicer machine
